Happy first week of May!
This week, I'll be reviewing text structures with students. Students need to identify if sentences or paragraphs are arranged in one of these structures: problem/solution, cause/effect, compare/contrast, or sequential order. Each day, we'll study a text to identify the structure being used. I'll be reviewing words from last week's Word Work and beginning a new story to expand our vocabulary. In writing, our class will revise and edit one creative writing piece. While they are rewriting their final piece, I will conference with each student to share strengths and weaknesses from their biography reports. Following these conferences, each student will be given a text to read, summarize, and write into a report. I want to students to write information in their own words and use a variety of sentences (linking words, simple, compound, and complex sentences). In math, students will work with elapsed time through Wednesday. A test will be given on Thursday on time. We spent 2 days last week working on telling time. Students had a bit of confusion drawing the clock face when given a time. We'll practice more this week in class. If possible, call out times for your student to draw what that looks like on a clock. In science, we'll cover environments needed for plants and review our plant/soil unit. Students will have a unit assessment on Thursday. Then, we'll shift over to social studies for our final four weeks. Math Night is Tuesday. PTA meeting starts at 5 and math games begin at 5:30. Interims will go home on Tuesday. Thank you for all your help at home. We're in the final stretch! Amy Flowers [email protected]
