I hope all of you had a wonderful time with your family over Thanksgiving break!
This coming week, we are tackling a lot of lessons! In math, we will finish our unit on writing equations and take an assessment on Tuesday. We continue working with multiplication and division the rest of the week, focusing on the variety of ways we can set up equations. For example: 4 x ? =40, ? x 4=40, 40 divided by ? equals 4, etc. Students continue to review strategies to solve multiplication and division problems. In reading, students will finish our "Frog Festival" by reading aloud their Pourquoi Tales to the class. As they read, I'm checking for fluency, accuracy, and expression. Following this, students will begin working towards writing informational pieces about frogs. They will begin to research, take notes, observe photographs and other text features for facts, etc. In science, students will do two Mystery Science activities. The first will be studying their shadows outside and learning how as the Earth rotates, our shadows shorten and lengthen during the day. Our second Mystery Science will be studying the phases of the moon. During intervention and enrichment this week, students will focus on addition and subtraction games and spelling. For spelling, students are grouped by ability and report to various teachers for 30 minutes of concentrated time on spelling patterns. After only a few weeks, teachers can see this investment of time paying off as we see improvements in reading and writing. Please remember to get your field trip money in if you haven't done so already. Our field trip to the planetarium in Chapel Hill is scheduled for December 14. Thank you for all you do, Amy Flowers [email protected]
