We're on a roll! Last week, we established rules and procedures (they are doing awesome!). In reading, we worked on finding "good fit" books and asking before, during, and after questions as we read books. In math, we added and subtracted with three digit numbers using drawings and expanded form.
This week, we'll continue with those concepts and add some more. In reading, we'll check for understanding using a couple of strategies. In math, we'll practice adding and subtracting using number lines as another strategy. We'll add science to our subjects this week. First quarter covers the human body.. This week, we'll learn the purpose of our bones and make skeletons! Homework will be consistent for all third grade: 20 minutes of reading (please sign their logs) and one math page. The Beginning of Grade test will be Wednesday, September 9th. Information will be in the green folders on Monday. The results for this test can act as a benchmark/starting place to help guide teachers in planning for each student. Be on the look out for your student's green folders on Monday. Checked homework pages from last week and school information is always sent home in these folders. 80's day is Friday....=) I'm looking forward to another terrific week =)

I am SO excited about tomorrow-our first day of school!
This week, we'll be establishing rules and procedures and all those items I must cover...but we're also going to have fun! I desire to get to know each of the students and for them to get to know each other. We'll use Legos, play-dough, drama, and art to share about ourselves. Beginning Wednesday, I'll be assessing students in reading. It's helpful to know where each student is in comprehension, ability to read words, etc. I'll use this information to determine goals for your student. I can share these results with you during our conferences. What we're covering this week: Reading-Ask questions before, during, and after reading, Finding "Good Fit" books for students Math-Review place value, addition, subtraction I look forward to an awesome week! |
