It's crazy to think that this is our first week in December! This year is flying by!
This week, students will dig into non-fiction texts. They will examine headings, picture captions, diagrams, illustrations, maps, and graphs to understand how these text features provide more information and support for the text. We will continue with Word Work and study carefully words that students commonly use. By spending time with these words, students should become better spellers and better at decoding to break down the meanings of words. In writing, students will complete a rough draft of a second opinion piece. Each student has conferenced with me and together, we've set goals to help them become stronger writers. Once this opinion piece is finished, we'll move on to writing informative pieces. In math, our class will continue working with multiplication and division strategies. I am encouraging them to memorize their multiplication facts. This will help them so much in fourth grade! In science, we'll review for Tuesday's assessment and then move on to social studies. Our next unit in social studies is about understanding our economy. Students will learn lots of vocabulary this week: business, consumer, resource, product, import, export, distributer, profit, etc. After we get a firm grasp on these words, we will work toward our next project: building their own businesses! This should be a fun unit! Thanks for all your support! Amy Flowers [email protected]
