This week during our literacy block, we'll be taking informative texts and touching on all the big ideas for third grade (main ideas, supportive details, inferences, opinions, finding the meaning of an unknown word, understanding how the text is arranged, text features, etc.). We'll return to Word Work this week and breaking down words by looking for prefixes and suffixes.
In writing, students turned in their creative writing stories. I'm looking at them to see if students are reaching goals we set last week (some need help in spelling, writing basic sentences, and organization). Everyone has a goal or two to reach for the remaining part of this quarter. We'll start our next writing piece this week. In math, we continue with measurement as we look at how to measure in liters, milliliters, inches, feet, centimeters, etc. Students did well on their elapsed time test but please continue to ask students questions like "if we leave our house at 5:10 and drive for 25 minutes, what time will we get to our next place?". Students also need additional practice in drawing what that time looks like on a clock. We start our final social studies unit tomorrow. Students will be studying why we need rules and laws, what the big government looks like, and what our local government looks like. This should be a fun unit! Thanks for all you do at home!
