This week, students will work with finding the elapsed time between two events in their math lessons. An example would be "Oliver leaves home at 7:35 and drives 20 minutes to the school. What time does he arrive at the school?" We'll be practicing this all week with a quiz on Thursday or Friday to check their skills.
In reading, students will be preparing to write their opinion essay. Last week, students reviewed the major components for this piece: introduction, focus statement, proof paragraph one, proof paragraph 2, and re-stating their focus statement in their conclusion. Students are focusing on the major water issues we've discussed in class: water pollution, access to water, and population growth. In science, students will begin Grass Heads, a fun activity to demonstrate how environmental conditions affect a plant's growth. They will also work with Pollination, understanding how this process occurs to continue the plant cycle. Finally, we'll look at seed dispersal and the types of soil. Please remember EOG testing will be the two days following Memorial Day weekend: May 29th and 30th. Thanks for all you do! Amy Flowers [email protected]
