This week, students will continue working with fractions. They will be learning which fractions are equivalent to each other, the difference between 1/3 and 3/1 (1/3 is one part out of three parts; 3/1 is three wholes), and comparing fractions. I'll be teaching them a game called the Fraction Circle Game in which they try to obtain as many whole circles as they can to win, using their knowledge of fractions.
In reading, we will working on how to give a presentation. At the end of the week, students will be sharing about their revised scene they have written in class. They will be creating prompt cards to jot down notes so they can present to the class with expression, eye contact, and constant engagement. I'll be helping them create cards this week and they will be practicing their presentations. Students will be given a final assessment on fluency and writing a summary at the end of the week. In social studies, students are very engaged in our study on economics. We are adding to their concepts every day with new vocabulary (profit, customer, consumer, product, etc.). Students will be assigned the Piedmont region and begin building products that would be found or manufactured here. After spring break, students will "sell" these items in a marketplace created for all of third grade. More information will be coming! That's all for now!
