In reading, students will be continuing their novel of Peter Pan. Students write a summary of each chapter and explain how the chapters build upon the previous chapters. At the same time, students will begin to read another text from the same author. Students will be writing about similarities and differences between the two texts.
In math, students will be learning about perimeter (adding the sides of a shape to determine the distance around the shape). We start off by using square tiles to create a shape and counting the distance around. After students have grasped this concept, we move to drawings and then to shapes with numbers labeled on the sides. We'll have an assessment on both area and perimeter this week. Our class is enjoying designing their Tiny Houses. They have been using their skills to find area as they create their blueprints. We'll add perimeter to their calculations and 3-D furniture this week. In science, we continue to talk about the properties of matter and how they change. We've missed science due to Boosterthon and other activities and I'm hoping to catch us up this week. Things that are good to know: Clubs will be on Tuesday afternoon 2:45-3:30. Valentine's celebration will be on Wednesday 3:00-3:40. Names are below if you need them.
