We're staying busy in 3rd grade! Last week, we enjoyed a visit from an awesome storyteller as part of our arts integration. On Monday, students will experience hands-on science fun with an in-house field trip! It's fun to pull in art and science into our daily routine =)
In math, students have worked hard to understand when to find area and perimeter and then following through with those computations. They have also worked to find the area of rectilinear shapes. We'll have an assessment on these on Tuesday and then begin our next unit on fractions. In reading, students have started the process of writing a review of Peter Pan. So far, they have written their introduction and their first proof (reason) paragraph. This week, we'll wrap up writing our first draft after including the second proof paragraph and conclusion. Students will take a final assessment in which they will rewrite this into a final draft. I will looking closely at revisions in punctuation, spelling, and capitalization as well as the implementation of linking words and phrases. In science, we took an assessment on properties of matter and have started our next unit on force and motion. Students are enjoying trying new concepts (adding weight, changing amount of force, creating friction) as they study this subject. I'll be taking them out to the playground this week to have them find situations when they are applying these concepts in real life. Thank you for all you do at home! Amy Flowers [email protected]
