Students will be focused on two things in math this week: fractions and multiplication facts. We will begin applying more real life situations in our study of fractions and have an assessment to check for understanding on Tuesday. With multiplication, students have concentrated on memorization of 2's, 4's, and 5's. This week, students will study 3's and have a quick drill test on 3's as well as a mixed sheet of previously learned facts.
In reading, students will read passages bringing global awareness to the issue of water in our world. They will be writing down the main idea along with details that support their idea. Students will compare and contrast these passages to what they have learned in their book, One Well. Finally, students will work with nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. An assessment will be given on Thursday to wrap up our first unit on water for this quarter. In science, our class has started growing plants from a lima bean seed. Students are responsible for observing environmental conditions (watering and ensuring plant is receiving enough light). Students will learn the function of the parts of the plant and participate in several experiments to support their learning: soaking celery stalks and carnations in colored water, using activities from Mystery Science, etc.) Thank you for supporting your student at home!
